Congratulations to Carlos Perez of Bay Shore
on winning the trip to Italy!

Brookhaven Chapter of UNICO National was chartered in June of 1970. Presently, we have 61 members, 10 of which are women, including the Chapter president. As a service organization we have donated tens of thousands of dollars to local and national charities through the UNICO Organization.

UNICO National is a nationwide service organization whose membership is exclusively Americans of Italian heritage, or married to those of Italian heritage, of good character and reputation, united together in a national chain, working jointly on national projects and separately on community activities, to uplift the prestige of the Italian American community. UNICO is a non-political and non-sectarian organization.

UNICO National grants scholarship awards, promotes Italian Study Chairs at prestigious universities, observes Columbus Day with fitting programs, participates in underprivileged and handicapped children’s work, charities, community and civic activities, mental health programs, cancer research, Cooley’s Anemia programs, and promotes good fellowship.

The Brookhaven Chapter of UNICO National not only supports the national programs, but also supports local charities and organizations through local fundraising efforts and performs community service projects such as the refurbishment and relocation of the Lady of Lourdes statue to St. Charles hospital. The chapter grants two local scholarships, the John Robustello Scholarship and the Vincent Bove Scholarship to seniors from local high schools. The chapter runs an annual fishing trip for youths with special needs. The chapter also was instrumental in the forming of the Italian Studies chair at Stony Brook University.

Socially the chapter holds events such as Breakfast with Santa, a Valentine’s Dinner and a trip to Arthur Avenue in The Bronx. There are functions on a National level as well. UNICO National has an Eastern Regional Meeting in the fall, National Board of Directors Meeting in the spring and a National Convention in the summer. All these meetings are held at different locations around the country each year. All members of UNICO are able to attend these meetings.

The dues for our chapter is $150 initially and $100 per year after the first year. The Brookhaven Chapter meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm at the Carnival Restaurant, 4900 Nesconset Shopping Plaza, Port Jefferson Station.
